Sharmine Chowdhury-Tse, a volunteer from NCT North West London Branch has been honoured with the NCT Volunteer Diamond Jubilee Award at the national NCT Stars Awards.
The award is presented to an NCT volunteer who has given exceptional time and effort at a local, regional or national level and is given in honour of NCT’s 60th anniversary and diamond jubilee.
Sharmine set up the branch’s popular Bumps & Babies group 5 years ago and continues to run it to this day. She has also established a Busy Rascals group in a local pub with activities for families, including pop up sessions run by local businesses.
Not only has Sharmine created a strong digital network of local parents from different walks of life, she also takes the time to get to personally get to know everyone and help them find the appropriate support they need.
Presenting the award at a special celebration yesterday at City Hall, London, NCT Head of Volunteering, Nikki Squelch said: “Every parent experience is different but whatever your background and the challenges you face, no one should have to do it alone. During her time volunteering at NCT North West London Branch, Sharmine has supported hundreds of new parents in her local community.
In accepting the award, Sharmine said: “I’m thrilled to win this award which recognises the work the NCT North West London Branch does to support all new parents. It is an honour to win the award in NCT’s Diamond Jubilee year as it’s a reminder of the thousands of new parents the charity has supported in the area over the past 60 years.”
