Injuries in childbirth: Raising awareness and restoring dignity for mothers
Date: 22 March 2017
Venue: Royal Society of Medicine, London
Details: A one day open educational meeting that will be the official launch of The MASIC Foundation which obtained charitable status in October 2016. The meeting will focus on mothers who have suffered injuries during childbirth, of which include bowel incontinence.

Enabling 21st century parents: Understanding family and community relationships
Date: 23 March 2017
Venue: Royal Society of Medicine, London
Details: Forming and maintaining a functioning family unit can be stressful and challenging and the emotional health of each family member depends in large part on its success. In bringing together health, sociological, psychological and policy experts from the US and the UK, this meeting will provide a unique forum to consider theories and practice around how best to support parent-infant and child relationships and thereby lay the foundations for a flourishing family and society.

Doula UK: Revolutionaries and Visionaries – Changing the World, One Family at a Time
Date: 25 March 2017
Venue: Manchester
Details: The conference will coincide with both World Doula Week and Doula UK’s sweet sixteenth birthday! Ina May Gaskin is confirmed as the Keynote speaker, followed by a dynamic day of workshops and networking, plus further talks from Elsie Gayle (Independent MW/Doula/NHS Whistleblower) and world-renowned authority on oxytocin, Kerstin Uvnäs Moberg.

Celebrating Continuity – Rhetoric into Reality, Policy into Practice
Date: 8 April 2017
Venue: Leeds
Details: In the light of Better Births and the withdrawal of the option of contracting an independent midwife to guarantee continuity of carer this is a timely national conference examining case-loading midwifery in depth.

Best Foot Forward: Getting good nutrition right from the start
Date: 26 April 2017
Venue: Kensington Town Hall, London
Details: This year’s conference will focus on ‘Eating well in the first year of life’ – with information on new national guidance on nutrition in the first year, new practical support for early years’ settings in England and new evidence summaries to support the WHO global strategy on infant and young child feeding.

A risky business? Exploring risk perception and care provision during pregnancy and birth

Details: The Maternity & the Newborn Forum at the RSM will be hosting a one day event to explore factors and issues around care provision during pregnancy and childbirth for women across the risk spectrum.
