The NCT research overview series provides an evidence base to guide the practice of NCT and other transition to parenthood workers on topics of relevance during pregnancy, birth, parenthood and the care of babies and toddlers aged 0-2 years. Workers must decide how to apply the evidence in their practice but they can feel confident that recently published research overviews provide up-to-date, balanced and reliable summaries and interpretation of the relevant research literature.

Articles from 2011 onwards were all originally published in Perspective, NCT's journal on preparing parents for birth and early parenthood. Articles published before 2011 appeared in New Digest, NCT's continuing professional development journal for antenatal teachers, breastfeeding counsellors, postnatal leaders, maternity services representatives and research networkers. The first articles, starting in 2001, formed a series of 'evidence-based briefings' on clinical interventions relating to the management of labour and birth. Several of the articles are formal reviews of evidence, including the review of the safety of home birth by Gyte and Dodwell. Others are broader overviews of research evidence on a given maternity care or parenting subject.

Research overviews are grouped together under the following headings: Pregnancy and birth, Baby Feeding and Transition to Parenthood.
