Are you thinking of using a sling to carry your newborn but are unsure which one to buy? Or have you used a wrap but want to move on for your growing baby? Our sling library could be just what you are looking for!
Carrying your newborn or older baby in a sling - or 'babywearing' as it is also known - is a fantastic way of bonding with your child, not to mention a very practical means of transporting them. But with a huge array of slings on the market, it can be hard to know which to choose: how do you know which one will suit you and your baby best? Well, our sling library is here to help!
What is a sling library?
We have a selection of slings including wraps (both stretchy and woven), soft-structured carriers and ring slings. You are able to come along and try out the slings - find out how to put them on, which work best for you and your baby and the different carries each type of sling is useful for.
What does it cost?
Trying slings during a session is free. Our local babywearing consultants are on hand to give information and share tips. Our weighted doll allows you to get a feel for carrying a baby in a sling. Hire charges will be £3 per week which includes demonstrations and help when making your selection, so you know exactly how to use your sling. We will require a deposit of £50 for the cost of replacing the sling but will accept a cheque which we will only cash if the sling is not returned or is damaged. We will also charge a small late fee for any sling not returned on the due date, that has not been previously communicated to the library team.
Where is it held?
Our sessions run on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 1.30pm -2.30 pm at The Parkside Cafe, 34 Parkside Rd, Reading RG30 2DD, we welcome all attendees during this time but we may not be able to help if you haven’t registered your interest on relevant Facebook post. On the Monday before each session a Facebook post will be made noting the number of people we can guarantee to see that week based on the number of available volunteers. As volunteers and parents ourselves, we may be required to attend to our our children but please ask you to bear with us and we will aim to help as many as possible.
Which slings are available?
There are many different types of sling available, from stretchy wraps suitable for newborns, the Close Caboo Carrier, woven slings, and buckle carriers such as a Connecta, Boba 4G, Ergo, Manduca and a Mei Tai. Do get in touch to discuss your needs and to find out what is currently available.
