Enhance your CV - Meet new people - Help other new parents -
Feel involved in your community - Training opportunities - Improve your self-esteem

NCT branches provide services, information and support to parents through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood – and are run entirely by volunteers.

We offer many different kinds of opportunities for you to get involved and to help parents in our area, whether giving a few hours of your time to our branch or taking on a particular role. You can use your skills, creativity, enthusiasm and experience, make friends and have fun! There’s something for everyone, however much or little time you have to spare.

  • Branch Secretary - If you love organising people and being the first point of contact in an organisation, then this role is for you. The branch secretary looks after the general enquiries inbox, organises and minutes branch team meetings and actively tries to recruit new volunteers. This role requires a regular, though not huge, time commitment as you will need to check NCT emails at least three days out of seven, and be available for branch team meetings, which take place every six to eight weeks. You will need good communication skills and access to a computer. NCT membership is not required for this role.

  • Nearly New Sales Coordination Team - Twice a year, we aim to hold our biggest fundraising event – the Nearly New Sale. Planning the sale is a team effort, and we are looking to put together a Nearly New Sale co-ordination team. The team can split up the roles as they see fit (e.g. someone to manage sellers, one to manage volunteers, one to liaise with the venue) and will also have the full support of the branch treasurer and social media co-ordinator to cover those areas. As a team, you'll be the main point of contact for sellers and volunteers, so you can expect to be quite busy in the run-up to the sale. Good delegation and an eye for detail will be your most valuable skills. At least one of you will need access to a computer and be IT literate. It's also a great way to meet other local mums! NCT membership is not required for this role.

  • NCT Feed and Change Stand Volunteers - We provide an NCT Feed and Change stand at various local events from the Lambourn Open Day in April to the Newbury Show in September. Our stands are much loved by our local parents as they give them somewhere to go, during a public event, to feed and change their baby in comfort and privacy. We also provide some colouring books and pencils for older siblings and often a game such as ‘hook a duck’ to help us to raise some funds. Parents can also find out more about the NCT and the social groups and services we offer locally. We need volunteers to help us on these stands throughout the day, usually working in two-hour shifts, to welcome people as they arrive, to top up supplies of nappies and wipes etc., and to keep the area generally tidy. NCT membership is not required.

All NCT volunteers have access to online resources, and support from existing branch volunteers. There are also training opportunities throughout the year.

Our volunteer vacancies change regularly, so please do get in touch if you are interested in helping the NCT support parents locally. There will always be some way you can help – and make a difference!

We hope you will consider joining our team. Please email if you’d like further information - newbury@nct.org.uk
