Ever wondered what goes into making a Nearly New Sale a success?
"My only previous experience of a nearly new sale had been while pregnant, when I was surprised by the amount and variety of things for sale (from stair gates to rattles, and everything in between) and really not sure what to buy! This time I found myself up bright and early and on my way to volunteer with my 7-month-old daughter – and my chequebook! -
With Amy tucked in the baby carrier I joined a small army of volunteers setting out everything for sale. In between prising inquisitive little hands from toys and boxes I was impressed by how quickly everything found a home. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and I even picked up a few tips on which were good toys for Amy's age.
A quick feed later and the volunteers got a chance to do their shopping. I managed to pick up some great value clothes, toys and books before the hustle and bustle of the main sale began. After we had bagged our bargains there was time for some lunch and for me to find a quiet spot to persuade a tired baby to sleep.
Once the doors had opened the mums with babies helped out in the cash room, sorting sellers' labels by colour and number. Even with baby brain I managed to cope with doing that and keeping an eye on Amy (although it might have been a different story if she was mobile!) It was nice to meet some new people and there was lots of chat about feeding, sleeping – and shopping."
The sales are an important fundraiser for the branch. It really is a concerted team effort to make a sale a success and the team are always looking for more volunteers. If you can spare a few hours to help out and pick up some bargains please email firstname.lastname@example.org
As an added bonus, if you volunteer and sell at the same sale your NCT commission will be reduced from 25% to 20%.
