What does the Branch Team do?

As you know, NCT is the only charity in the UK that wants all parents to have an experience of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood that enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent.  In order to achieve this, the charity not only provides UK-wide essential services like antenatal classes, various telephone helplines, website information, but also a network of branches that provide a friendly support network.

As a parent, you appreciate how immensely important these local services are to both expectant and parents with young children. Becoming a parent is a wonderful life-enhancing experience, but it can also be challenging and sometimes stressful.  Your local branch, Harlow & Epping, has been dormant for a few years and we (Regional Team and UK Office) would like to revive the branch, so that once again the following services can be offered to not only to our members, but to the parents and carers in the Harlow and Epping 

• Bumps and Babies Group
• Nearly New Sales
• Quarterly Branch Newsletter
• Events / Parties
• Coffee mornings
• Parent Information workshops

Who can volunteer and how much time will it take?

All NCT branches are run entirely by a team of volunteers. It is hoped that at some stage along the path through parenthood, members and those who NCT have supported will want to play a part in their branch.  Volunteers are the lifeblood of the charity, and all contributions, however small, are greatly appreciated.

In today’s fast paced world, you are probably wondering where on earth you would find the time to volunteer.  The beauty of NCT is that we are a family friendly organisation and a lot of the roles can be done with little ones in tow (or when they are in bed asleep!). 

Please consider becoming a volunteer... You don’t need to take on huge tasks, all roles can be shared, and the rewards are immense.  It’s a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and represent NCT.  Volunteering looks great on your CV, and we welcome dads, grandparents and carers as well as the mums. 

No volunteer is ever alone.  All branch decisions are made the by team as a whole, so no one person needs to feel over-burdened by anything.  Support is also available from a variety of sources - volunteer role e-groups, babble (our volunteers’ Intranet), and members of the East of England Regional Team.  Training days are held throughout the year so volunteers can take advantage of various workshops giving information and support to carry out their roles.
