About NCT

NCT is a charity with a clear mission: to support people as they become parents, through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

With a 65-year history of transformative change, we are a vibrant community of volunteers, practitioners, peer supporters, members and advocates. We are the largest parenting charity in the country and over the decades we’ve supported millions of people on their unique journey into parenthood.

While many know us for our antenatal classes, we also do much more. We campaign on issues that matter to parents, provide infant feeding support, and run thousands of free community events and activities led by our amazing volunteers. We also support families facing challenges like social isolation, feeding difficulties, and poor mental health. We offer support in communities, in hospitals and online.

About the role

Join our passionate team and contribute to the meaningful work that transforms the lives of parents and families.

The Head of Finance and Finance Transformation is a critical role at a pivotal time for NCT - when we are enacting significant organisational changes in our ways of working and how teams are organised, operate and collaborate. This is a collegiate role with a huge opportunity to transform the charity’s finance function

You will shape and deliver a long-term financial strategy that enables large-scale transformation, digital innovation, and sustainable growth. At the same time, you will modernise and streamline our finance function including leading the end-to-end design and implementation of a new finance system and embedding best-practice operating models that enhance efficiency, insight, control and collaboration.

This is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for financial sustainability, robust financial and risk governance, and leading a major finance transformation programme.

Your role will include:

• As a member of the Senior Leadership Team lead and drive the Finance function’s strategy to support organisational transformation and growth
• Leading annual budgeting and forecasting processes and partnering closely with budget holders
• Partnering with senior leaders to provide financial analysis, modelling and strategic advice that informs decisions and investment choices
• Developing finance capability across the organisation in use of digital tools, data literacy, forecasting and commercial thinking
• Ensuring alignment between Finance, Technology and other directorates, fostering strong cross-functional relationships to support transformation and operational delivery

About you

We are looking for someone who is both strategic and hands-on, collaborative, decisive and committed to inclusive leadership. As a fully qualified accountant, you will excel at leading the finance function through major organisational change, driving financial strategy, governance and high-quality reporting whilst keeping the day-to-day finance operations running smoothly and efficiently.

You will bring:

• Proven experience leading finance transformation programmes and modern finance system implementation
• Experience in the preparation of management and financial accounts, along with stakeholder liaison and adding commercial and impact value
• Experience of managing, leading and motivating a team, both in the day-to-day and through change
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with senior level stakeholders, along with ability to create a positive, solutions-focused environment through a time of change
• Experience strengthening financial controls, governance and reporting
• Excellent financial modelling, forecasting and analytical skills
• Experience presenting to Boards, Executive Teams and Committees
• Proven commitments to inclusive, equitable and respectful leadership

Our Benefits – What we offer you

We value our team and offer fantastic benefits to support your well-being and professional growth:

  • 30 days annual leave (excluding Bank Holidays)
  • Pension matched up to 5%
  • Flexible working options to suit your lifestyle
  • Employee Assistance Programme, including 24/7 GP access, personalised counselling, legal advice and more
