Pregnant women, expectant and new parents tell us that pregnancy, birth and early parenthood can be an overwhelming experience. It can provoke every possible emotion with both the anxiety of the unknown, and the excitement of new beginnings. There is no experience quite like it. We get it.
Everyone should be able to shape their own unique journey of becoming a parent, feeling confident, connected and safe.
That means meeting people where they are, recognising that every journey through parenthood is different, and providing support that works for them. No judgement. No exceptions.
At NCT, our role is to support pregnant women, expectant and new parents in ways that feel practical, human and relevant to real life. We do that in two connected ways: by supporting parents directly, and by advocating for better systems that support families across the UK.
Supporting parents directly
We educate and empower parents with evidence‑based information and practical support they can trust.
That includes antenatal and postnatal courses, trusted information, and local and digital support offered through our network of staff, trained practitioners and dedicated volunteers. Together, they provide support that helps thousands of parents understand their choices, feel more prepared for what’s ahead and right now, and connect with others going through the same stage of life.
Advocating and acting for pregnant women and parents
We also listen to pregnant women and parents’ experiences and work to improve the systems that affect them.
As a charity, we advocate for safer, fairer care by raising women and parents’ voices, challenging inequality and campaigning for change in maternity and perinatal support. By working alongside pregnant women, parents, professionals and partner organisations, we aim to create lasting improvements that benefit families across the UK.
When parents come together, their voices have power, and we’re here to help make them be heard.
How we show up
Across everything we do, our approach is evidence‑based, inclusive and free from judgement.
We share trusted information grounded in research and real‑world experience, so parents can make informed decisions that feel right for them and their family. We recognise that pregnancy journeys and families come in many forms, and that parenthood is shaped by experiences, culture, circumstances and personal decisions.
Whether through our volunteers, practitioners or staff, we aim to be a companion and an ally, offering support that feels human, welcoming and grounded in understanding, not assumption. We’re here online and offline, in communities across the UK, and in the national conversations that shape women and parents’ experiences.
No judgement. No exceptions.
