Local support for breastfeeding

Breastfeeding cafe

Breastfeeding Support Group

Our Bumps & Babies @ BabyCafe is at Christchurch in Hitchin on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10.30am to 11.45am. We also run a group in Letchworth. This takes place at the Mrs Howard Memorial Hall every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, also at 10.30am to 11.45am.

Our BabyCafe's are free to attend but you will need to book your place by going to Upcoming Events.

Amy, our breastfeeding counsellor will be on hand to offer support for all things feeding and postnatal, things such as checking position, supply or moving from breast feeding to solids – it’s also great opportunity to meet other parents and share stories. Dads and other supporters always welcome. The service is available to everyone, you do not need to be an NCT member.

Outside of these times, you can contact the NCT Feeding Helpline by calling 0300 3300 700 (option 1 8am - midnight). You'll speak to one of our amazing breastfeeding counsellors when you call. They've had extensive training and will use their person-centred counselling skills to support you. This includes listening to you without judging or criticising and offering relevant information and suggestions - whether you're breastfeeding, formula feeding or a bit of both.

At the BabyCafe you can:

- discuss your breastfeeding with a specialist
- ask someone to check your positioning (please remember to bring baby hungry if you would like someone to observe a feed or check your positioning)
- get information and support

Breastfeeding can sometimes be surprisingly difficult. Everybody has heard the message that 'Breast is Best', but doing the natural thing does not always come naturally. You may find feeding painful, or feel overwhelmed by it all. Help, information and support is offered at the Baldock Breastfeeding Drop-In.

We aim to provide all mothers and their babies with a place to come that is relaxed and comfortable, and where they can find skilled help and support with issues such as:

  • sore nipples
  • colic
  • slow weight gain
  • mastitis
  • thrush
  • expressing milk
  • tongue-tie
  • stopping breastfeeding
  • baby feeding constantly
  • returning to work

You can also get advice on expressing breast-milk at the drop in session. Please bring a sterile pump with you if you want help expressing.
