Read on to find out how you can help…

“But I don’t have much time….”

We realise that time is often in short supply for new parents. So we have listed the voluntary roles, so that it is easy to see how much time they will need. Each of these jobs is important in helping us keep this branch running.

Even doing something SMALL can make a BIG difference

Things you can do

With a little time

Make cakes or help behind a stall, for a fund raising event.

Become a Welcomer - attend a branch event (eg welcome evening, café junior) or new local coffee group, and chat to people to make them feel welcome and included.

Regularly hand out flyers about the NCT to your midwife or health visitor, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, church, school or nursery.

“I used to go along to my local coffee group occasionally, but never considered volunteering - I thought it was for other people, and not for me.  But then the mum who organised the coffee group told me about the committee and said "you should do that, you'd be good at it!", which encouraged me to volunteer. I really enjoy working with other mums, and have made some good friendships as a result.”

With a Little more time

Host a local coffee group in your home

Be a class supporter for an antenatal class

Come to committee meetings, and get involved in current projects (short term).

“When I went back to full-time work after my maternity leave, I really missed mum-to-mum contact. I thought that I wouldn't be able to do anything useful for the NCT because of not having any time during the day, but actually there are loads of openings which can work round evenings, once the kids are in bed, or things that they can do with me at weekends. It's a great way to stay part of a community of mums and meet new friends.”
