Support and information from NCT

NCT offers reliable support and information about the various stages of pregnancy, week by week.

Your developing baby

Now you are 28 weeks pregnant, your baby is about 37cm long and weighs about 900g.

They are able to blink and will do so in response to external sound.

Week 28

Preparing for your new arrival

Now you’re entering your third trimester you may want to start preparing for your new arrival and think about what your new baby will need.

If you’re on a tight budget, why not check out your local NCT Nearly New Sale? You’ll be able to buy top-quality baby and children’s clothes and equipment at bargain prices!

Baby movement in the womb

There's no specific number of movements that's considered to be normal. What's important is noticing and telling your midwife about any reduction or change in your baby's normal movements. Many babies develop a pattern to their movements, maybe being more active after a meal, in the early morning or late at night. They are all individuals so get to know your baby's pattern. This is the safest and most reliable method of monitoring their movements and will help you determine if your baby has a period of reduced or increased movement.

Heartburn is a strong burning sensation in your chest or throat that can be common during pregnancy. It is often brought on by lying flat, so sleeping propped up can help. Try to avoid eating for a few hours before bed, as this can also help to relieve the symptoms of heartburn. You may also find particular foods set it off.

If symptoms of heartburn or indigestion persist you can ask your GP or midwife for advice, as they may be able to prescribe something safe to take while pregnant.
