In response to the Royal College of Midwives' Re:Birth report, NCT's CEO Angela McConville said:

"Language is no panacea to ensure safe, quality and personalised care for women and babies – that will require investment to build a safe and sustainable workforce, training and a shift in leadership and culture. But what is clear from the Royal College of Midwives’ Re:Birth work is that clear personalised terms to describe different types of birth, that are understood by everyone, can help prospective and new parents to make informed decisions about their care.

"As a charity dedicated to supporting and listening to parents, we know that expectant and new parents can find it quite distressing if inappropriate language is used at what can already be a stressful time. Ensuring a better understanding between those providing maternity care and those accessing care can only be a positive thing."
