NCT course safety guidance for NCT Antenatal courses has been compiled in line with the relevant guidance currently in place for UK nations and Islands and RCOG / RCM recommendations for pregnant women, and has been created in consultation with an independent health and safety advisor.

Please read the guidance for the nation or island where your course is located before attending.

To help keep you safe indoors NCT will:

  • Ensure only venues with risk assessments are used.
  • Ensure seating and activities can be adjusted to enable people to maintain a safe social distance, if they choose.
  • Ensure rooms are adequately ventilated.
  • Ensure hand sanitiser is available.
  • Offer refreshments in ways that prevent food sharing, minimises crowding in kitchen / serving areas and enables good hand hygiene to be maintained.
  • Request the course leader takes a rapid lateral flow test before each session.
  • Provide parents with alternative delivery options for course sessions affected by Covid-19.
  • Provide parents with alternative options for course sessions missed due to Covid-19.

To help keep everyone safe you need to:

  • Consider wearing a face covering in busy and crowded spaces, or if you are in close contact with others. Wearing a face covering can help protect you and others.
  • Be respectful and give people space. Not everyone has been vaccinated against Covid-19 and some people may feel anxious or be in a high-risk group.
  • Wash or sanitise your hands regularly. Catch coughs and sneezes in tissues and dispose of these hygienically.
  • Bring your own baby-change mat, if possible (applicable to reunion sessions).
  • Not share food and drink, avoid crowding in kitchen / serving areas and maintain good hand hygiene when having refreshments.
  • Swap to online Zoom session delivery should circumstances related to Covid-19 in your course group require this.
  • Take a rapid lateral flow test before each session, if you can.
  • Leave a course session if you develop symptoms of a respiratory infection such as Covid-19, or feel unwell.
  • Let your course leader know and not attend an NCT Antenatal course for 10 days if you have a positive Covid-19 test result. This is because we follow government guidance on avoiding meeting people at higher risk of becoming seriously unwell from a respiratory infection, including Covid-19 - which includes those who are pregnant - for 10 days after a positive Covid-19 test result. We'll provide alternative options for sessions missed.
  • Let your course leader know and not attend a session if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection / Covid-19 symptoms. Take a rapid lateral flow test, if you can and follow government guidance People-with-symptoms-of-a-respiratory-infection-including-covid-19. We’ll provide alternative options if you are unable to attend sessions.
  • Let your course leader know and not attend a session if a close contact* tests positive for Covid-19 and follow government guidance People-with-symptoms-of-a-respiratory-infection-including-covid-19 (*refer to linked guidance for definitions of close contact). We’ll provide alternative options if you are unable to attend sessions.
