NCT Courses and Covid-19

Covid-19 price promise: If some or all of your course takes place online due to Covid-19, we promise to give you a course price discount related to how much of the course is online.

During July and August we are taking a safety first approach to delivering our courses in-person, this means that we have a mix of online and in-person courses available.

We are taking decisions on how we deliver our courses from September 2021 onwards based on government unlocking time frames and venue availability. It is our ambition to deliver the majority of our courses in-person.

We are updating course information on our website and contacting you 4-6 weeks before your course begins if you have booked a course place, explaining how unlock may affect how your course will run.

How we make decisions about the delivery of NCT courses

As the UK’s largest parenting charity and leader in the field of antenatal education, we make informed decisions with full consideration to the current and any (confirmed) future UK government restrictions and official guidance and the most reliable research findings and data regarding pregnancy and Covid-19.

We also consult closely with our colleagues at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

It’s our charitable mission to support all parents to have the most positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and the early days, so we will:

  • act promptly and transparently, informing you how and why your course will be delivered as early as practically possible.
  • always make decisions that offer the best experiences available whilst protecting you, our parents, your babies and our NCT course leaders.

About Julie

Julie has three children, each of whom was born in a different setting. She believes passionately in empowering women and their partners so they can have a positive birth experience, however their labour unfolds.

She believes in a woman's innate ability to give birth. Research illustrates women who are given continuous one-to-one support by a female companion during labour often experience shorter and less painful labours. Julie's role is not to replace the partner (unless they are unable or unwilling to attend) but to work together with them to provide physical, practical and emotional support to mum.

When talking to couples at class reunions, they frequently express that it was hard to remember all that they learned while they were experiencing the intensity of labour and birth, especially when their birth didn't quite happen as they had hoped. As a doula, Julie can help by offering practical ideas and support and by facilitating communication with medical staff, ensuring that the birth plan is adhered to as closely as possible.

Whether you hope for a natural birth, or cannot face the thought of labour without an epidural, deciding whether to book a doula can be a big decision. Julie is very happy to meet with you informally over a cup of tea or a chat on the telephone to discuss whether this service is right for you.

Testimonials

"Julie was fantastic throughout the birth of our baby. I have a fear of all things medical so it was incredibly reassuring and comforting to have Julie with us. Julie has a huge amount of knowledge in relation to the birthing process and gave us loads of tips to make things go as smoothly as possible. We would have no hesitation in recommending Julie to others and will certainly use her again if we're lucky enough to have any more children."

"Julie was an amazing support throughout our very long labour. She kept us both calm and made us both feel more confident every step of the way. Julie showed genuine care and concern throughout our labour and after the birth of our daughter. There is no way we could have done it all without her and we cannot express how grateful we are to have had her with us."

- N and M

"We asked Julie to be our doula and she was absolutely amazing.  When I think back to the labour, I'm not sure we could have done it (or me in any case) without her!"

- Armed Forces Father

"Your support leading up to the birth and your support on the day made a huge difference for me. It took away much of the anxiety about going to hospital to have my baby"
