NCT Courses and Covid-19

Covid-19 price promise: If some or all of your course takes place online due to Covid-19, we promise to give you a course price discount related to how much of the course is online.

During July and August we are taking a safety first approach to delivering our courses in-person, this means that we have a mix of online and in-person courses available.

We are taking decisions on how we deliver our courses from September 2021 onwards based on government unlocking time frames and venue availability. It is our ambition to deliver the majority of our courses in-person.

We are updating course information on our website and contacting you 4-6 weeks before your course begins if you have booked a course place, explaining how unlock may affect how your course will run.

How we make decisions about the delivery of NCT courses

As the UK’s largest parenting charity and leader in the field of antenatal education, we make informed decisions with full consideration to the current and any (confirmed) future UK government restrictions and official guidance and the most reliable research findings and data regarding pregnancy and Covid-19.

We also consult closely with our colleagues at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and Royal College of Midwives (RCM).

It’s our charitable mission to support all parents to have the most positive experiences of pregnancy, birth and the early days, so we will:

  • act promptly and transparently, informing you how and why your course will be delivered as early as practically possible.
  • always make decisions that offer the best experiences available whilst protecting you, our parents, your babies and our NCT course leaders.

Pregnancy and birth are amazing journeys, but some parents feel they could benefit from the continuous support of somebody they know, with experience of the birthing environment. With an NCT doula, you can have support by your side every step of the way.

Doula and pregnant woman

Pregnancy can feel like a step into the unknown, especially for first time mums. How you are cared for during this important time can have a lasting impact on you and your family. NCT doulas can offer the additional support you may feel you need during pregnancy and labour.

They’ll make sure you understand your options and provide continuous physical and emotional support during your birth.

What to expect

Practical and emotional support

Your doula helps you to find your way through all the information and choices you’re faced with during pregnancy. She’ll support you, and help you practise labour skills such as massage and breathing. She may also have books and equipment for you to borrow.

Regular meetings

The bond between a pregnant woman and her doula is very important. She’ll meet you at least three times before your birth, so that you feel completely comfortable with her. She’ll be there to support you during labour, and will arrange to see you after the birth to talk through how it went.

The birth you want

Having a doula with you can really help during labour. As well as giving any other birthing partners confidence, it can shorten first-time labour by an average of two hours. Some mothers find it also reduces the need for pain medication or a caesarean.

NCT doulas vary in price depending on experience and location. If you have a due date between the end of February and mid-April, our advanced student doulas may be able to give you high-quality support for a reduced cost.
