Following the birth of my first child in Bristol over a decade ago, I moved to Bradford and started to volunteer with Homestart Bradford District. I had expressed interest in becoming a breastfeeding peer supporter and following the birth of my youngest rainbow baby, the opportunity to train with NCT came along.
"I have always enjoyed making connections, signposting and sharing information."
I thought that contacting the Bradford and Airedale NCT Branch would help me to continue to do this. I went to a meeting to find out more and came away with the offer of the role of Feed and Change Station Coordinator.
I had previously attended groups that had left me feeling a tearful outsider, so I decided to be a welcoming, friendly face for others. Fast forward 5+ years and I now run the NCT Mini Music Makers Session at Shipley Library - currently weekly on our branch YouTube channel.
I still help to plan activities and taster sessions for our Bumps, Babies & Toddler groups. And you will still find my girls and I providing support at NCT Feed and Change stations at events across the region!
I'm also a member of the Yorkshire & Humber regional team as a Volunteer Area Link and a member of the NCT co-production crew. I have completed my 'train the trainer' course and you might even spot me on some of the online training modules!
"I love interacting with all the people I meet, although I'm much better at faces than names!"
