Pregnancy Sessions
Our drop-in sessions for pregnant women support women through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. They are flexible, welcoming and informative, helping you to feel prepared and gain confidence in your pregnancy and for babies arrival.
Sessions are every week in community venues across Newham and led by friendly trained professionals. See our schedule of dates.
This is an open and informal space where you are welcome to bring your questions and have them answered.
We cover a range of topics such as:
- where to get support
- pregnancy care
- preparing for labour and birth
- birth options
- understanding your rights
- what to expect in the first 24 hours after baby is born
Creche is provided within the session time for children 0-4 years, if you need the creche please email in advance to book your child in at newham.nurture@nct.org.uk. If you do not need the creche please drop-in at any of our pregnancy sessions (held during term time) see our schedule.
If you would like someone to call you, please fill in our self referral form.
Baby&Me Sessions
Baby&Me is a drop-in session for mums and babies up to 2 years.
Our aim is to enable all mums who attend to feel supported and confident in their parenting choices. Each week our sessions include answering questions about caring for your baby and baby feeding. Whether breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or mixed feeding, we support your choices and offer reliable information. This is a safe and friendly space to meet like-minded mums and make new friends whilst your baby can interact with other babies in a fun environment.
You can attend our Baby&Me session by dropping in, see our schedule.
If you would like someone to call you, please fill in our self referral form.
Peer Support
Peer supporters can provide social, emotional and practical support to pregnant and new mums up to 6 months after birth, enabling and empowering them to access maternity services and gain the information and confidence they need during their pregnancy and to care for their baby.
Peer supporters are mums themselves who live in the local area and have lived experience of pregnancy, raising a child and everything in between. They receive accredited training through the programme enabling them to be non-judgmental, empathic and very good listeners. We have peer supporters who speak a variety of different languages. Support is provided either in person, online or by telephone.
If you would like further information on peer support and have someone call you, please fill in our self referral form.
Counselling
This is a space for you to talk freely and safely about things that are on your mind. This could be from the past, present or about the future. It is a confidential space for you to offload with no judgement. For some it can be helpful to talk to someone who is not a friend or family member. Counsellors are trained to listen and help you explore and process your feelings.
The counselling we offer is person-centred which means it is centred around the person, you decide what to speak about and how much you choose to share. There is no pressure to talk about things you do not want to talk about.
Sessions usually last 50 minutes and will take place on a weekly basis. You will be able to decide the date and time of your session.
They can take place either online or in person with child care available.
Find out more about our counselling services or to ask any questions please email newham.nurture@nct.org.uk or call Sandra on 07542 128 238.
