Responding to launch of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan for the NHS, Angela McConville, Chief Executive, NCT said:
"The 10-year plan sets an ambitious and welcome direction for the NHS. Now implementation will be key and we’re clear about what it must deliver in practice.
“The plan must deliver on the promise of equity - with safe, personalised, culturally competent care for every parent.
“New parents shouldn’t have to chase fragmented support - so we welcome the introduction of Neighbourhood Health Services and the emphasis on more joined-up care.
"We want to see midwifery teams based in the community, working with GPs, and health visitors, with infant feeding and mental health support for parents at every stage. That includes the introduction of properly funded GP postnatal checks covering physical, mental and sexual health.
"Parents’ voices must be central, and NCT stands ready to work with government, partners and parents to help make that happen."
