Thousands of new and expectant parents battling loneliness and isolation during Brew Monday week were able to get a cuppa and support at one of the 100 free community events that took place across the country hosted by NCT, the UK’s national charity for pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.
With nearly one in three new parents experiencing loneliness during the colder months, these volunteer-led community meet-ups offer a vital lifeline during a difficult time of year for so many.
From Walk & Talk sessions to Parents in Mind, Bumps and Babies, and Baby Cafés, NCT volunteers across the country encourage parents to attend their local event to forge connections and create supportive spaces, often while enjoying a comforting cuppa.
Daniella Abraham, Head of Volunteering at NCT, said:
"Becoming a parent can be an isolating and lonely experience.
"Sometimes, the simplest gestures carry the most meaning. Offering a new or expectant parent a cup of tea is more than kindness—it’s a moment of calm, connection, and care during a life-changing journey. In that quiet pause, you’re saying, ‘I see you, and you’re not alone.’"
“Our events, made possible by our incredible volunteers, are a lifeline for so many. They are spaces of connection, understanding, and shared experience. In these moments, parents find reassurance, build networks, and discover they are never alone on their journey."
“Please consider donating to help NCT volunteers connect with even more new parents during this transformative stage, or, if you’re not able to donate, how about volunteering at your local NCT branch, or even making a hot drink for a new parent in your life?”
NCT is appealing for donations to expand its free support for parents. Funds raised through NCT’s Winter Appeal will help sustain community events and bolster vital services, such as NCT’s Infant Feeding Line, available daily from 8am to midnight.
