Who can support you at NCT

Our breastfeeding counsellors and breastfeeding peer supporters are here to support you on your feeding journey. They are all mothers or breastfeeding parents who have experience of breastfeeding their own babies.

NCT Breastfeeding Counsellors

Our breastfeeding counsellors will discuss your options and explore what would work for you, alongside offering relevant information for you to achieve your feeding goals. You will be offered the opportunity to be listened to without judgement and without being pushed in any one direction.

Your breastfeeding counsellor will make use of person-centred counselling skills, bringing thoughtful and empathetic support to you and your family. This includes listening to you without judging or criticising and offering information and suggestions. They will provide relevant information to help you make informed decisions about feeding your baby, and will continue to support you however you feed your baby.

NCT Breastfeeding Peer Supporters

Our breastfeeding peer supporters are mothers with personal experience of breastfeeding who have completed accredited specialist training.

They offer friendly, non-judgemental support to new and expectant parents in local communities, hospitals and over the phone. They are trained to help with common infant feeding challenges, including positioning and attachment and concerns about milk supply, and can signpost families to trusted, evidence-based information and additional support when needed.

Our peer supporters provide a welcoming, understanding presence and valuable local knowledge, helping parents feel informed, supported and confident throughout their feeding journey.
